On August 12, 2026, a total solar eclipse crossed Spain for the first time in a century.

The sun looked back, disconcerted, perhaps, by what it saw. A country that had gathered in the millions to witness a once-in-a-lifetime celestial event. A country that, in its daily life, has chosen not to look down.

Beneath the ground, in fields, in roadsides, in the edges of cemeteries, lie the bones of the disappeared. The hundreds of thousands of victims of Francoist executions during the Civil War and the decades of dictatorship that followed. For nearly a century, they have remained in mass graves, unnamed.

A group of forensic archaeologists has chosen differently, to bring light where darkness reigned. They excavate. They identify. They return the dead to the families who have waited, in some cases their entire lives, to bury them where and how they want.
